A Yankwitt LLP trial team led by Partner Michael Reed scored a defense victory for the Golden Nugget Atlantic City Hotel, Casino & Marina (“GNAC”) in a jury trial in New Jersey state court. The case was filed by a casino patron who alleged injuries arising out of an altercation with GNAC security. The patron asserted a multitude of claims, including negligence, battery, malicious prosecution, and false imprisonment.
Yankwitt LLP’s exceptional brief writing, oral argument skills and trial experience carried the day. Following discovery, we successfully moved for partial summary judgment, leading to the dismissal of the plaintiff’s claims of negligent hiring, negligent supervision, negligent security, and negligent training. At trial, we proved with strong eyewitness testimony and cross-examination that the security guard acted in self-defense. After deliberating for less than two hours, the jury awarded the plaintiff zero dollars in damages.
A few months later, Yankwitt LLP prevailed for the second time in the case when the court denied the plaintiff’s motion for a new trial and rejected the plaintiff’s request for the court to award damages.
In addition to Michael, the Yankwitt team included Managing Partner Russell Yankwitt, Partner Alicia Tallbe, and Associate Philip Tullo.
